Leftovers and Fat Bears – RedState

The Fair of the State of Alaska has closed its doors. Our local producer market has also closed its doors. The people of Alaska, like the bears of Alaska, plan to be silent and hibernate through another winter of Alaska. Oh, we, people, don’t really humby, but with a few exceptions, like our musher friends, we draw our horns a little when the big white blanket descends.
So what happens to all the remaining vegetables of the Alaska state fair? It seems that a unique solution of Alaska is the answer: nourishing bears.
This is a problem that we are all facing: what to do with all these remaining vegetables so that they do not waste? The Alaska state fair, in collaboration with the Alaska fauna conservation center, has designed a solution to the secular problem: feeding them with bears.
“This year, they get a lot of cabbage. It was pretty cool to see. We have mixed carrots. Everyone likes carrots and then we also have zucchinis,” said Sarah Howard, executive director of the Alaska fauna conservation center.
With as many vegetables to choose, animals obtain a smorgasbord of options, which provide them with enrichment as well as a healthy meal, but some are more skeptical than others.
“Many of our animals in hoof stock will be somehow, they will look at us and they will look at the cabbage or anything and then they will look at us as:” What am I doing with that? “” Said Howard.
“Then, with the Bears, because we did it so long and we have Zhuzh and we have fun with the bears, I think, know when the tractor comes into play,” something good is about to come to me “”, she continued.
These are not wild bears, be careful. These are more or less tamed bears, living in the Alaska fauna conservation center. Wild bears, well, you don’t want them to start associating people with food. But these bear already do it. This makes it a good idea, and the bears, could us, to note, are at this time of the year when they pack each ounce that they can in preparation to sleep during the winter.
“I am so grateful because it is such a funny day for all animals. They are really there, they do not get this kind of enrichment which often and so particularly in particular with a tractor and leaving the bears that tear the bucket, it is not something that we allow the bears to do all the time,” said Howard.
The Bears know the sign of a good time and will sometimes make a show for the crowd that gathered to watch.

And, prepare yourself, because the week of the bearing fat is almost there.
Bear should be larger and larger this year due to the significant salmon duration in Bristol Bay. The Alaska Fish and Game Ministry predicted that nearly 49.8 million fish would appear in the Bay region this year. Bruce says that around 20% of this goes through Brooks River.
“We have never seen so many fish in this river. There was almost not enough water for all the fish. It was as if you could cross the river and never touch the water because you walk on the back of the fish. So, really, a really strong race this year.”
I remember my uncle, a navy in the Pacific during the Second World War, making a similar comparison: that at the end of 1945, you could walk from Pearl Harbor to Tokyo, from bridge to all the ships of the American Navy. Personally, I prefer to cross the salmon.
Alaska man score: We will reserve a judgment until we see all bears.

Now, a few words about Charlie Kirk. It must be said. Please note that this was recorded the day Charlie was killed, so there has been no mention of developments since. It was my first raw impression.
We will return to Alaska next week.
