About 20,000 students attend the Boone County Schools district, the largest in Northern Kentucky and third largest in the commonwealth.
Located about 20 miles southwest of Cincinnati, the district has 15 elementary schools, six middle schools and five high schools.
It takes a lot of money to run that many schools. The district has a more than $355 million budget, according to its working budget report for fiscal year 2025.

The highest-paid person in the district is Superintendent of Schools Jeff Hauswald, who was hired in 2024 after serving as superintendent at Monroe County Community School Corporation in Indiana for three years.
He made $270,475.27 in the 2025 fiscal year, a public records request shows, making him the third-highest-paid superintendent in the state, according to the Kentucky Department of Education.
