Man goes missing during late-night swim at Queens Rockaway Beach

A man for swimming at the end of the evening with friends in Rockaway Beach in Queens disappeared after having disappeared underwater, said cops on Sunday.
The 37 -year -old swimmer went into the water with one of his friends near Beach 97th St. around 11:20 p.m. on Saturday and did not resurface, said cops.
The friend returned to the ground and reported that the missing man said cops.
NYPD divers were in the water in less than an hour to find the man but did not find him, said a spokesperson for the NYPD.
The search was finally canceled overnight, but was to resume Sunday.
Swimming is prohibited for city beaches, except at 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. during summer months when rescuers are in service
