Mercedes-Benz has revealed the 2027 electric C-Class, saying it is the “sportiest” C-Class ever made.

The introductory C-Class C 400 4MATIC Electric will be fast, with a 482-horsepower dual-motor setup that delivers 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds. Mercedes-Benz also touts rapid “amplitude-selective” damping and “very direct” steering, which, combined with a multi-link rear suspension and a four-link front suspension, promise a blend of agile handling and comfort.

A previously unreleased Agility and Comfort option adds AIRMATIC air suspension and 4.5-degree rear axle steering.

The German brand also claims an estimated range of 473 miles based on WLTP testing (US EPA data is likely more conservative), with an 800-volt architecture offering up to 201 miles of range in 10 minutes and a 10% to 80% charge in 22 minutes. You can drive from Berlin to Paris with just one charging stop, Mercedes claims.

The additional driving distance results from selective use of the front engine, increased reliance on regenerative braking, as well as a two-speed transmission that prioritizes efficiency on highways.

AI, Hyperscreen and driver assistance

Expect E- and S-Class Comfort

While there is some notable exterior technology, including more efficient and clearly defined micro-LED headlights, most of the major revisions are on the interior.

The 2027 Electric C-Class has the option of a hyperscreen (also found on cars like the 2027 EQS) that provides a continuous 39.1 inches of display space for the driver, center console and passenger. There is also a “Superscreen” available with three separate screens.

Like the new EQS, this more compact electric sedan uses the new generations of MB.OS and MBUX which make AI a central functionality. It combines OpenAI’s ChatGPT-4o model with Google Gemini and Microsoft Bing to handle complex conversational queries. Google offers optional, charging-friendly navigation, and you can purchase “digital extras” like apps and games.

This extends to driving aids. Features like Distance Assist are included, but you can also purchase MB Drive Assist and Drive Assist Pro for more advanced help. A City Pro feature will arrive later and promises “seamless” driving, even in heavy traffic.

When it comes to reliability, the JD Power 2025 ranking gives a clear order to BMW, Mercedes and Audi.

Availability of the Electric C-Class and the BMW question

We will have to wait for the prices

The CC 400 4MATIC Class will arrive in U.S. dealerships in the first half of 2027. Pricing and additional variants are not available at the time of this writing, although historically they are closer to launch.

However, these details can greatly influence your purchase. Mercedes’ introduction comes just weeks after the premiere of the 2027 BMW i3, which offers a claimed range of 440 miles thanks to its own dynamic engine system. It also has an AI-driven cabin that includes passenger and head-up display options. It also arrives in early 2027.

Shake up expectations

BMW is more often associated with performance driving, while Mercedes tends to be associated with comfort. However, Mercedes makes it clear that it wants the electric C-Class to be considered a comparable gasoline car in terms of thrills, not just range. At the very least, the C-Class should also appeal to a wider audience than the EQE and EQS, not to mention attract drivers who don’t want an SUV like the EQB.
