Meta AI bots impersonated celebrities, produced lewd images, report finds

In an exclusive survey, Reuters discovered that Meta used the names and resemblances of celebrities without their consent to food chatbots that have often done pretty advances to users.

The report revealed that these robots have dispersed on meta-owner platforms, including Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp. While many have been created by users, at least three come from a meta-employee, including two robots of “parody” Taylor Swift. The other celebrity resemblances that surfaced included Scarlett Johansson, Anne Hathaway, Selena Gomez and 16 years old Percy Jackson Star Walker Scobell.

During several weeks of testing, Reuters documented how the bots often insisted that they were the real celebrity in question. When invited, some photorealistic and intimate images have generated their famous counterparts. These included photos of lingerie and bath scenes, aggravating routine sex advances in bots.

A Meta spokesperson admitted to Reuters that his AI systems should never have produced such images. The spokesperson recognized the period of time as a failure to apply the company’s own policies, which explicitly prohibit the creation of sexually suggestive content involving public figures. Reuters also contacted the Meta employee behind the Swirth Taylor Swift chatbots, but she refused to comment.

The latter revelation adds to an increasing list of criticism surrounding Meta’s lax regulation of its AI robots. Earlier this week, the company limited its use by adolescents after a distinct investigation of Reuters revealed how meta-avatars engaged in “sensual and romantic” conversations with minors.

This report sparked a Senate investigation and led a coalition of state -of -the -art prosecutors to publish an open letter requiring that the company has set up stronger guarantees to protect minors from sexualized AI content.
