Mike Tomlin now stands alongside another Pittsburgh Steelers coach in the NFL record books.

Thanks to the Pittsburgh Steelers’ thrilling Week 18 win over the Baltimore Ravens, Tomlin is now tied with Hall of Fame coach Chuck Noll on the all-time regular season wins list. Tomlin and Noll are tied for ninth all-time with 193 regular season wins. Tomlin’s win in 193 was also special in that it occurred in a game that saw the Steelers capture the AFC North division title and a berth in the AFC playoffs.

“I enjoy some of those things,” Tomlin said recently when asked about some of his recent career milestones. “It’s been a blessing, but it’s really irrelevant as I stand here today, leaning into this Cleveland Browns opportunity this week. There are so many people in this collective that that doesn’t apply to, and with football being what it is, the ultimate team game, I better display that focus.”

Two weeks ago, Tomlin increased his NFL record for most consecutive undefeated seasons to start a career, which now stands at 19. He is one season away from Tom Landry’s record for most consecutive undefeated seasons in NFL history.

When it comes to coaching icons, there doesn’t come much bigger than Noll, who in just five years transformed the Steelers from a 1-13 team to Super Bowl champions. During the 1970s, Noll’s Steelers became the first team to win four Super Bowls. Pittsburgh remains the only team to win two and four consecutive Super Bowls in a six-year span.

Noll was above all a teacher who preached the fundamentals to his teams. A former offensive lineman, Noll’s expertise in that area helped transition one of Pittsburgh’s players from a strong running team to a big-time passing attack in the middle of their dynasty after the league established rules to help open up the passing game.

It took some time, but Noll eventually developed a successful partnership with Terry Bradshaw, the last Steelers player to win the league MVP. Their working relationship undoubtedly played a big role in Bradshaw becoming not only a Hall of Fame player, but also a successful player on Pittsburgh’s roster.

Now in his 19th season, Tomlin continues Pittsburgh’s legacy of success started by Noll more than 50 years ago. He’ll look to help the Steelers earn their first playoff victory since 2016 when Pittsburgh hosts the Texans on Monday night in the AFC wild-card round.
