Boston Celtics lose massive NBA star ahead of decisive Game 7

The Boston Celtics will be without one of their biggest NBA stars on Saturday against the Philadelphia 76ers as both teams prepare for Game 7.
Both Eastern Conference teams are looking to book their spot in the second round of the NBA Playoffs. However, a date with the New York Knicks depends on which team earns the decisive victory in Boston.

Tatum returned to the Celtics just weeks before the playoffs after rehabbing his brutal Achilles injury. Last year, Tatum was ruled out of the NBA playoffs against the Knicks after suffering a season-ending setback.

However, the Boston superstar has rehabilitated his body to get back into shape for the latter part of the 2025-26 season. Tatum’s latest setback could cost Boston a spot in the next round, given Philadelphia’s current form.

The 76ers clawed their way back into the first round series after initially trailing 3-1 against Boston. However, the last two games have featured massive contributions from Joel Embiid for Philadelphia.
Embiid’s health is still a big concern for Philly fans, but his recent form has given the team a major playoff boost alongside Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe and Paul George.
In Game 6, Tatum finished with 17 points in 29 minutes despite not playing late in the game due to knee discomfort.
Head coach Joe Mazzulla tried to reassure fans that Tatum would be available for Game 7. However, it appears his knee ailment will keep him from facing the 76ers.

The Celtics still managed to contend for the number one seed in the East for most of the year without Tatum. However, it’s clear that the former Duke Blue Devils star elevates Boston when he’s available to play.
The winner of Saturday night’s Game 7 will face the Knicks starting next week as the teams look forward to an appearance in the NBA Finals. Boston fans will now have to hope that Jaylen Brown and Co. can lead Boston all the way to the Eastern Semifinals.
