National Guard Embraces Festive Uniform Modification – RedState

National Guard troops patrolling the streets of Washington, D.C., have attracted particular attention this holiday season, after being spotted with a festive new “uniform modification.”
It all started with a post Tuesday evening on X, with a clip showing the backs of a group of guards walking down the street together. Although we couldn’t see the front of their uniforms, it was clear that on top of their heads, each wore a red and white Santa hat.

“The National Guard wears Santa hats while on patrol in Washington,” the post read.
Shortly after, independent journalist Nick Sortor reposted the clip and wrote the following: “NOW: National Guard troops are patrolling Washington wearing Santa hats. God bless these heroes for being away from their families this Christmas to protect our nation’s capital.”

And by Christmas Eve morning, even Secretary of War Pete Hegseth had seen the video and wanted to assure all the Grinches that all was well with the cheerful adjustment to the traditional camouflage-patterned uniform.

Christmas also came a little early this year for President Donald Trump and his administration, with a Washington, D.C. Circuit victory in the decision to deploy National Guard troops to the nation’s capital to combat unchecked crime.
As my RedState colleague Susie Moore wrote:
President Trump and his administration scored another legal victory Wednesday, as the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals issued an order granting the administration’s request to stay a lower court injunction that barred the Trump administration from deploying or requesting the deployment of National Guard members in the District of Columbia.
Moore emphasized that “the decision itself is made per curiam.” She also noted that this was not the end of the ruling on guard troops in Washington, D.C., and wrote that D.C. “could always request a repeat en banc.”
Today, although this combination of Christmas and the National Guard will surely upset the Grinchies on the left, we choose instead to enjoy this holiday for the joyous occasion it represents. And won’t focus on those who will surely only get coal in their stockings for their ramblings about Trump and those on the right.
