Is a Free Domain Name Service Worth It? I Tried One and Here’s My Two Cents

If you create a website, the creation of personalized messaging accounts or even the execution of your own FTP server, you will need a domain name and accommodation. This can easily collect hundreds of dollars. So I went in search of a really free domain name service, and here is what I discovered.

Can you really get a free domain name for your website?

The short answer? Yes. You can hang a free domain name in two main ways:

• By registering for an annual accommodation plan (or more). Some of the best domain registrars and web hosts are launching an area for “free”.

• Or using a completely free domain name provider.

I will show you exactly how I got my free field using a service for no cost, as well as the advantages and disadvantages so that you can decide if this suits you.

Meet the free domain: a free domain name provider

I already have several areas, but I needed a website for a quick and short -term project. So I thought why pay if I didn’t have to do it?

So let’s move on to what I liked (and I didn’t like it) in the free field.

What I like in the free fields of the free domain

I appreciated the following features while using the free domain.

1. Super easy domain creation

Obtaining my free field has only been fast and less than a minute. Head yourself to the free domain, enter your favorite name, choose a TLD and click Check the availability. If it is available, hit Claim this name. That’s it.

2. Really free, no tied channel

Unlike certain suppliers of “free” domains that bomb you with advertisements or hidden costs, the free domain is really free, with zero advertisements. I was impressed.

Your domain remains free forever. Remember that you will have to renew it each year at least 30 days before its expiration, unlike the paid areas of the free domain that you can prepare up to 15 years.

Admittedly, these are not premium extensions, but they are perfect for my small projects or temporary sites.

5. Free WordPress accommodation

The free domain includes free wordpress accommodation for six months. After that, it’s only $ 1.99 per month. There is also a free 30 -day trial for regular web accommodation. This is essentially everything you need to connect, free for half a year.

6. Easy upgrades in the field

Do you want to go to one standard .com or another premium TLD? The free domain supports 11 major areas plus 891 other extensions. However, when I tried to obtain a specific area in the country, it was $ 34.30 more than local registraires, so I passed.

7. Free and dynamic DNS SSL customer

Free Domain also provides SSL, FTP and access to the database, and dynamic DNS for life if you do not wish to use a static IP address. It offers tons of additional features that I have not even ended up needing for my project.

Despite the advantages, I had a hard time operating some of the announced features. The user interface was not the most intuitive, and some tools were more complicated to configure that they should not be.

What I didn’t like in the free fields of the free domain

Even if there is a lot to love, here are some reasons why you may want to think twice before using Free Domain’s Free Domains:

1. Unpopular domain names

Extensions of the free domain like .Work.gd or .publicvm.com are good for personal projects or demos, but they are not ideal for most professional uses. I would not launch an online store or a professional wallet on one.

2. AMMOIS Grammar on their website

I spotted obvious grammar and spelling errors all over the free domain website. Some typing faults here and there, I can understand, but coherent errors can be an outing, or even a red flag, especially for writers or anyone concerned with fraudulent websites.

3. Obsolete user interface

As I connected to the dashboard, I felt like I was returning in 2001. Of course, it’s free, so I can’t complain too much, but if I was a paid customer, you can bet that I would file a complaint (in writing) on the obsolete design.

4. Repeated SSO Google problems

After configuring my account, I continued to encounter problems trying to connect with a single connection (SSO). I had to manually enter my username and password each time. Not a dealbreaker, but certainly boring.

5. Assistance by interrupted email

I send a lot of emails, so I was delighted to see free 100% free sales emails without advertising with 50 MB of storage each for two mailboxes. But when I tried to activate them, I had an error saying that the service had been interrupted.

6. More free WordPress accommodation for free domains

When I tried to activate free wordpress accommodation included with my free field, I also received an error message. My only option was to use a temporary .mywp.info address, but this process also stalled with more errors, and the FAQ section (which was difficult to find) did not help.

7. No live support

I wanted to contact the assistance via the cat live on this and other problems, but I was indicated to the FAQ DNS and the assistance by e-mail instead. It turns out that only paid customers get a live cat or priority e-mail responses within 24 hours.

The good news? After a few tests and errors, I was finally able to help the errors and install WordPress. I explain how in the section “How to install WordPress …” below.

So, should you try a free domain service as a free domain?

I did it, and he technically delivered what he promised: a free domain name for more than six months of WordPress accommodation. But it was not exactly a smooth navigation. With hindsight, I found a reward space easier and easier to use.

How to obtain a free domain from the free domain

If you always want to try, here is how to claim your free domain:

1. Visit the free domain.

2. Enter your favorite domain name and choose one of the four TLD supported.

3. Click Check the availability.

4. If available, click Claim this name. Otherwise, repeat steps 2 to 3 until you find one that is free.

5. Click Register for a new account. You can register using the form or via Google or Facebook.

6. On the next page, check your email. If the code does not happen, click Relive. E-mail will come from support@dns-exit.com.

7. Enter your verification code and click Submit.

8. review your domain information, check the Dynamic IP box if you need it, otherwise just click Submit.

9. Click Check DNSThen on the next page, click Submit.

How to install WordPress from your dashboard

1. Go to the dashboard> WordPress accommodation (under web accommodation).

2. Scroll down and click WordPress.

3. In the application to install the WordPress section, enter a database name, then select the pre-replite DB username from the drop-down list.

4. Click Install the application (Ignore all error messages for now and try the process several times).

5. After a few minutes, enter your temporary domain in your browser, log in with your username and free domain password, and you must land in your WordPress backend to start creating your website.

If you see an error, log out and try again after a little.

And that’s it, you are now the proud owner of a free domain and a website – for six months!
