President Donald Trump wants to pretend he’s not crippling the economy, but 2025 job growth has fallen by more than half and it’s all his fault.

Only 499,000 jobs were created between February and November 2025, according to new data from the Bureau of Labor Statisticsat the bottom of 1.57 million new jobs during the same period last year, a year-over-year decrease of almost 68 percent.

Even though the job market is off to a strong start, job creation started to weaken in April, around the same time Trump announced his reciprocal “Liberation Day” tariffs. CNN reported that 2025 has shown the weakest levels of job growth since the pandemic, and before that, the Great Recession.

The BLS reported Tuesday that unemployment rose to 4.6 percent in November, the highest rate in four years.

The Trump administration has touted the creation of about 687,000 private sector jobs (while cutting 188,000 government jobs), claiming that 100% of job growth can be attributed to “native-born Americans.” However, the jobs report does not record faithfully the nationality or legal status of workers, their claims about who exactly will get these jobs are therefore pure fiction.
