Man Escorted Out of MLS Match for Wearing MAGA Hat
A man was allegedly started from a major football match in St. Louis, Missouri, for having pretended to wear a hat “Make America Great Again”.
A video published on social networks has shown the man, identified as Michael Weitzel, invited to leave the match at Energizer Park. He said it was for his “Donald Trump hat”.
“I am Michael Weitzel, and I was asked to leave because of Donald Trump’s hat,” he said in the video as the security agents asked him to leave.
The security guard, who said that he had supported Trump himself, could be heard, “They are non-political here … they don’t want any kind of political messaging”.
When Weitzel underlined several people in the stands by waving national flags, the security personnel said they “were pre-approved”.
According to Fox News, the rules at Energizer Park said that political banners were not authorized in the stadium. He mentions nothing of the hats.
While security officials said the rules had been uniformly applied, Weitzel confirmed that he was “expelled from the scene”. When he came to the hall area, Weitzel said: “Trump is not welcome to St. Louis City SC Club.”
A member of security staff said Weitzel could return to his headquarters if he removed his hat, but someone out of the camera could be heard: “We have exceeded this point.”
“It is not his fault. He just follows the rules,” he said about one of the security guards. “So that’s what’s going on when you wear a Donald Trump hat in a SC City SC match.”
Political slogans that are not authorized during sporting events have aroused controversy in the Trump era. In 2024, leading to the presidential election, several fans of the NFL said that they had been started from the stadium for having worn “Make America Great Again” Swag during the Games.
