New York Attorney General Letitia James Indicted on Fraud Charges

A grand jury indicted New York Attorney General Letitia James on fraud charges Thursday, about two weeks after former FBI Director James Comey was indicted.
A source familiar with the matter confirmed the indictment to The Associated Press on Thursday.
“James was indicted in the Eastern District of Virginia on one count after an investigation into mortgage fraud, said the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the case publicly,” the AP reported.
The case remains sealed as of this writing, so the exact evidence presented to the grand jury remains unknown.
Neither Letitia James nor her office have released a comment on the indictment, although she has previously denied any wrongdoing while saying a mistake was made when “filling out a form related to the purchase of the home, but quickly corrected it and did not mislead the lender,” according to the AP.
In late September, former FBI Director James Comey was charged with one count of making false statements and one count of obstruction of justice. The charges came after the Trump administration replaced U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia Erik Siebert with White House aide Lindsey Halligan, who sought an immediate grand jury indictment before the statute of limitations expired.
According to NBC News, the charges “likely stem from testimony Comey gave on September 30, 2020, during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing.”
“Asked by Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, about testimony he gave in 2017 saying he did not authorize the leak of information regarding the FBI’s investigations of President Donald Trump or former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Comey said, ‘I stand by that testimony,'” NBC News noted.
“Comey’s deputy, Andrew McCabe, said Comey authorized him to release information to the press, according to a 2018 Justice Department inspector general report. But the report also found that McCabe made several false or misleading statements,” it adds.
In July, the FBI opened an investigation into former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director John Brennan and former FBI Director James Comey over their roles in the investigation of President Donald Trump and alleged Russian collusion.
