No Deal Was Struck to Get ICE out of Minneapolis

On MS NOW’s “All In” Thursday, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey (D) said no deal had been reached with border czar Tom Homan, leading him to announce that the Trump administration’s surge in immigration forces would end.
Host Chris Hayes said: “Mr. Homan implied that deals had been made. You know, there’s been that sort of thing going on. I’m a little skeptical about the authenticity of it, but I’ll just say that, you know, all we want is for you to turn over the hardened criminals and let us cooperate with you in the prisons, and we won’t have to crash people’s cars and drag them out of their homes. A deal done here that led to the end?
Frey said, “Our position has remained the same throughout, and I’ve said this for months, if not years, that we will work with the federal government to arrest murderers, rapists and people who cause danger in our city. We will work intensively with the DEA, the ATF and the FBI to put people like that behind bars. We will not, however, cooperate in enforcing federal immigration policy. Period. That was our position at time. That’s our position now. I’ve had two, three productive, meetings with the border czar, Tom Homan, obviously there’s progress in that area. But as far as the deal that was made to get them out, the answer is no.
