When Apple announced iOS 26 to its Global Developer Conference In June, the technology company also announced that the new iOS version would be available for the general public this fall. However, developers can try a first version of iOS 26 now, and public beta testers could see iPhone software this week. According to rumors, we could see the public beta version before the weekend.

When is the release date of the public beta version iOS 26?

We have no exact date, but the first rumors suggest that the beta version could be published the next day or two.

Historically, Apple publishes the first public beta version of its next iPhone software in July. Apple generally publishes the latest iOS version in September, so a public beta version of July gives the company time to crush the main bugs and the resolution problems you may encounter on your iPhone before the operating system comes for everyone.

But we are already halfway until July, you may wonder where the public beta version is. The good news is that Mark Gurman, editor -in -chief and Apple journalist at Bloomberg, published on X, formerly Twitter, that Apple could publish the public beta version on Wednesday, July 23. But Apple did not publish the public beta version.

Gurman said in his article that Apple could release the public beta version “around” July 23, which could mean Thursday or Friday. Thus, public beta testers could discover new iOS 26 features, such as liquid glass and backgrounds in messages, before weekends.

Before downloading the public beta version, you should know that this is a beta version of iOS 26, not the final version of the software. This means that the update can be buggy and that the battery life of your device can be affected, so it is better to keep these problems out of your main device. If you want to try the beta version, I recommend downloading it to a secondary device.

You should also know that iOS 26 is compatible with devices more recent than the iPhone 11. So, if you have an iPhone XR – as I do – you cannot download the developer or the public beta version of iOS 26. Believe me: I tried, and my XR would not load the page to download the beta developer despite that I really want to see if my device almost 7 years old could manage the operating system.
