One airline is cutting economy class reclining seats

Travelers who find it rude when people in front of them on a plane recline their seats have a new ally.
This ally would be WestJet, a major Canadian airline that transports passengers around the world. WestJet recently announced that all economy class seats on its jets will now have a “fixed-recline” design. In other words, those who pay for the cheapest seats will no longer be able to lie down. There will still be reclining seats in the “extended comfort” section of the plane and in the premium cabin, but it appears that most passengers will now be on equal footing when it comes to the angle of their backs.

According to WestJet, this means its Boeing 747s will now have an extra row of seats, and you can expect these to be rolled out by the end of the year. This could also theoretically reduce ticket prices per seat.

On the other hand, the more rows there are on a plane, the less space there is for each person. It may also seem problematic for customers who hate losing access to something that has been standard on airplanes for years. However, those of us who find it a little inappropriate that the person in front of us decides to bow probably won’t mind.
As always, remember that the other people on the plane probably hate being there as much as you do and adjust your behavior accordingly.
