Thursday, the rod reported that Chatgpt 5 of Openai will arrive in August. We already expected a summer launch, but the big models are often subject to delays. It is therefore a great potential news for fans of the popular IA chatbot, although official details remain rare.

The unofficial details, rumors and leaks, on the other hand, are numerous.

So what can we expect from Chatgpt 5?

Chatgpt 5, explained

If you are a casual chatgpt user, then the chances are that most of your prompts are managed by GPT-4O. It is the default version of the chatbot that Optaai describes as “ideal for most tasks”. However, Openai is still preparing new versions. In fact, the company of IA has published new AI tools at a frantic pace in 2025. (That he could maintain this pace after Meta has made a talented poaching frenzy, we will have to wait and see.)

So far this year, Openai has published an extremely popular image generation tool (remember the image trend of the Ghibli studio, right? And the trend of the Ghibli studio?). Then, in April, the company abandoned two new models of reasoning, O3 and O4-Mini. The company also delivered its operator agent AI, a new education initiative at Microsoft and teachers, and another smarter reasoning model, O3-Pro. And in addition to Chatgpt-5, the company has announced that it would make an AI portable with the designer of iPhone Jony Ive, and should also work on an AI browser, among other projects.

However, Chatgpt-5 will be a particularly notable version, as this should make significant improvements to the daily chatgpt experience.

What do we know about GPT-5?

We do not officially know yet, except that GPT-5 is actively tested. On July 23, the CEO of Openai, Sam Altman, sat with the Podcastor Theo Von, and he spoke of the GPT-5 on several occasions, saying: “5.0 I think it will be great.”

Later, he described what it is to test the new model:

Mashable lighting speed

This morning, I was testing our new model and I had a question. I received an email a question that I did not understand very well. And I put it in the model, this GPT5, and he replied it perfectly. And I really sat on my chair, and I said to myself, Oh guy, it’s time. And I overcome it quickly. I took care of the next thing, but it was like … I felt, like, useless compared to the AI in this thing that I had the impression that I should have done. And I couldn’t, and it was really difficult, but the AI just did it like that. Yeah, it was a bizarre feeling.

Of course, I feel like I have heard leaders of AI say a version of this anecdote whenever they promote an imminent version.

We expect GPT-5 to offer more agent capabilities.

Chatgpt-5 could combine several models and tools

Currently, chatgpt users can switch between different models, from GPT-4 to advanced reasoning models. Openai also has tools like Sora, for the generation of videos, and Operator, an AI agent based on the web.

However, the technological radar points to rumors of the first testers according to which GPT-5 will combine these different tools in a single interface, which would allow you to generate images, conduct in-depth research or write code.

Best coding capacities

Earlier this month, Altman shared this story on X, that many users suppose reference to GPT-5.

Large models versions generally provide incremental improvements to basic capabilities such as generation and image coding, and we expect this to be the case with the new Openai model.

GPT “arrives soon”, open leaders promise

We know that Altman is not the only one to test GPT-5. And while discussing the recent Openai gold medal during an Olympiad in Mathematics, Openai’s researcher, Alexander Wei, promised: “We are publishing GPT-5 soon.”

Tech Radar also cites independent researchers who have identified a reference to the model in “The OpenAi internal Biosec reference framework, suggesting that the model is already tested in sensitive areas such as biosecurity”.

Larger context windows

With each new model, Openai extends the Chatgpt context window. This term refers to the amount of data that a model can “remember” when responding to an prompt. Chatgpt developers and users actively call for larger context windows (the exact size varies depending on the model), and we would be shocked if this was not part of GPT-5.

To be frank, Openai has done a very good job to maintain at least GPT-5 leaks. In addition to some cryptic references that the model soon arrives, Openai has kept a discipline of messages fairly strict around the next model.
