Oscar-winning Palestinian director Basel Adra says Israeli soldiers raided his West Bank home

Palestinian nauseating director at the Oscars Basel Adra Said of Israeli soldiers carried out a raid in his house in the West Bank on Saturday, looking for him and his wife’s phone.
The Israeli settlers attacked his village, injuring two of his brothers and a cousin, Adra told the Associated Press. He accompanied them to the hospital. During his stay, he said that he had heard a family in the village that nine Israeli soldiers had stormed his house.
The soldiers interviewed his wife, Suha, where his place of traffic is located and crossed his phone, he said, while his 9-month-old daughter was at home. They also briefly owned one of his uncles, he said.
On Saturday evening, Adra said that he had no way to go home to check his family, because the soldiers blocked the village entrance and that he was afraid of being detained.
The Israeli army said the soldiers were in the village after the Palestinians launched rocks, injuring two Israeli civilians. He said that his forces were still in the village, searching the region and questioning people.
Adra spent her career as a journalist and filmmaker telling the violence of the colonists in Masafer Yatta, a group of villages in the south of the West Bank, where he was born. After the colonists Attacked his co -director, Hamdan BallalIn March, he told the AD that he felt that they were targeted more intense since the Oscar’s victory. Adra said he was witness to detention and said that around two dozen settlers – some masked, some wearing firearms, some in Israeli uniform – attacked the village of Susiya. Ballal said the settlers beat him In front of his house during the shooting of the assault.
Adra described Saturday events as “horrible”.
“Even if you just film the settlers, the army comes and continues you, searches your house,” he said. “The whole system is designed to attack us, terrify us, to make us very frightened.”
Another co -director, Yuval Abraham, said that he was “terrified for Basel”.
“What happened today in his village, we saw this dynamic over and over again, where the Israeli settlers brutally attack a Palestinian village and later on the army, and attacks the Palestinians.”
“No other land”, which won an Oscar this year for the best documentary, portrays the struggle of residents of the Masafer Yatta region to prevent the Israeli army from demolishing their villages. Ballal and Adra did the Palestinian-Israelian joint production with Israeli directors Abraham and Rachel Szor.
The film won a series of international prizes, from the Berlin International Film Festival in 2024. It also attracted IRE in Israel and abroad. In March this year, Miami Beach proposed to end the lease of a cinema that projected the documentary, although he then fell.
Israel captured the West Bank in the 1967 Middle East war, as well as the Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem. The Palestinians want the three for their future state and consider the growth of stands as a major obstacle to a solution to two states.
Israel has built much more than 100 colonies, which houses more than 500,000 settlers who have Israeli citizenship. The 3 million Palestinians in the West Bank live under an apparently open Israeli military regime, with the Palestinian authority on the back of the West administering population centers.
The Israeli army appointed Masafer Yatta in southern West Bank as a live shooting area in the 1980s and ordered that Arab residents were expelled. About 1,000 residents have largely remained in place, but the soldiers move regularly in houses, tents, water tanks and olive orchards – and the Palestinians fear that the expulsion can occur at any time.
During the war in Gaza, Israel killed hundreds of Palestinians in the West Bank during large -scale military operations, and there was also an increase in settlers against the Palestinians. There was also an increase in Palestinian attacks against the Israelis.
