Parents of Minneapolis shooting victim press Vance to take action on gun violence during VP’s visit

Last week, the parents of a child shot a Catholic church in Minneapolis pressed the vice-president JD Vance on Wednesday to take measures on firearms, asking him to defend bipartite legislation which would approach the “mass shooter” of the country.

Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance met several families affected by the shooting when they studied the human balance sheet of the horrible attack. This study, said Kaiser, must explore why “we are the country with the worst problem of mass shooter”.

“Thoughts and prayers have not been sufficient,” he added.

Kaiser acknowledged that finding an effective solution to the epidemic of firearms would be difficult but warned the danger of increasing apathy around the issue.

“I do not pretend to have the answers, but we have to commit ourselves to watch,” said Kaiser. “Then we can feel good in the defense of life.”

Kaiser did not say how Vance responded to their message.

Kaiser’s daughter is one of the 15 children injured during the shooting, alongside three adult victims. Two children, Fletcher Merkel, 8, and Harper Moyski, 10, were killed.

Vance had previously had Lugues with criticism that struck offices of “thoughts and prayers” after Minnesota draws as weak and ineffective. He called the criticisms of the expressions of “bizarre” prayer and a part of “strange cultural wars of the left wing”.

But in comments to journalists after Wednesday’s visit, he took a different tone, calling for his conversations with members of the community in mourning “tearing but also very rewarding”.

“They were rational and reasonable people despite their sorrow, and I cannot imagine what I would be at the moment of sorrow,” said Vance. “All they ask is that we are very seriously looking at the deep causes, that we are very seriously looking at the means to prevent the madmen who are about to shoot a school of access to firearms.”

By reflecting on Vance’s visit, Lydia’s mother, Leah Kaiser, referred to the frequent quote from the school director of the school to deber an African proverb who says: “When you pray, move your feet.”

“Vice-president Vance, you have huge authority. Please use this moment to move your feet and transcend our political divisions to promote peace, unity and hope. This is what the people of the United States will keep you responsible, “she said.

Asked how Vance responded to the message from the Kaisrs, his office did not respond directly and rather stressed his remarks to journalists.

In these remarks, Vance expressed the desire to “do something” to reduce the prevalence of mass fire, saying: “We should investigate people who plan to target children”. He supervised the 23 -year -old accused of being behind the attack as showing “clear signs of disturbance” which “slipped through the meshes of the net”.

Vance previously suggested that the “mental health crisis” is among the deep causes of mass fire.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has planned a potential special session to consider restrictive firearms this month, a main assistant at NBC News said. Vance drew when he asked if he had supported the effort, but said that it is important that state legislators “actually take lasting measures that will work”.

“Listen, I’m not going to tell Minnesota legislators or the governor exactly how they should react to this tragedy,” said Vance. “There is a strong desire for the whole political spectrum to do something, so these shootings are less common.”

While he was in the hospital, Vance spoke on the phone with Weston Halsne, a fifth year student who had a bullet fragment placed in his neck that doctors are just saying his carotid artery, said the office of Vance.

Earlier in the day, the second couple held a private two -hour meeting at the Catholic school announcing with church leaders and the parents of the two children killed during the attack. They also visited the church sanctuary, the shooting site, to pay tribute to the victims and their families, said the office of the vice-president.
