The New England Patriots defense could limp into an important Week 16 game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Mike Vrabel provided an injury update Friday. The head coach confirmed that linebacker Robert Spillane will miss Sunday night’s game with a left ankle injury.

Some other key defenders could join Spillane on the sidelines. Vrabel announced that Harold Landry III, Marcus Jones, Carlton Davis III and Christian Barmore are all questionable.

Although he was active, Spillane did not play in Sunday’s costly 35-31 loss to the Buffalo Bills. New England allowed 349 total yards and 28 points in the second half without its leading tackler.

Spillane missed practice all week, so the Patriots must face another MVP quarterback without the 30-year-old. They hope the rest of the unit won’t be too embarrassed against Lamar Jackson and co.

Landry, Jones, Davis and Barmore all missed Thursday’s practice, but Evan Lazar of Patriots.com spotted the first three on the field Friday. Barmore worked out on an exercise bike, which the defensive tackle did last Friday before playing 51 snaps against Buffalo.

Barmore would be a significant loss before opposing Derrick Henry and a Ravens offense allowing an NFL-high 5.2 yards per carry. Landry leads the Patriots with 8.5 sacks, Jones has a team-leading three interceptions and Davis has started all 14 games this season.

The Patriots will need as many healthy players as possible to compete for a playoff spot. Sunday’s game begins at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC.
