Pensacola saw single-digit wind chill. How cold did it get?

After a weekend of extreme cold warnings, Pensacola once again managed to find itself largely spared from the worst winter weather this weekend.
On Saturday, Pensacola recorded a high maximum temperature of 43 degrees and a low low temperature of 25 degrees, with an average of 34 degrees, which was a bit higher than the National Weather Service’s initial forecast. Pensacola woke up to single-digit wind chills early Sunday morning, reaching as high as 7 degrees around 5 a.m.
Temperatures will begin to rise Monday and Tuesday, reaching near 70 degrees in some areas. Another cold front will invade the region Tuesday evening, causing temperatures to drop slightly again. More stable temperatures are expected toward the weekend, with highs in the 50s and 60s and lows in the 30s and 40s.
The Florida Panhandle will be under a cold weather advisory from 11 p.m. Sunday to 9 a.m. Monday, with wind chills as low as 20 degrees expected.
Despite subzero temperatures for about 18 hours, no major damage was reported in Pensacola. Burst pipes were spotted across Milton on Sunday morning.
How cold was Pensacola during the freeze?
Pensacola experienced warmer temperatures than initially thought, but it was still relatively cold. Saturday’s high reached 43 degrees and the low reached around 25 degrees. Previous forecasts estimated maximum temperatures of 36 degrees and minimum temperatures of between 19 and 20 degrees, which would have broken decades-old records.
Saturday’s temperatures were about 20 degrees below normal. The average high in January is 62.6 degrees, the average low is around 43.1 degrees, and the average temperature is 52.8 degrees.
Temperatures Sunday morning were colder, according to data released by Pensacola International Airport. A low temperature of 21 degrees was reported between approximately 5 and 7 a.m. Wind chill values reached single digits for about five hours Sunday morning, reaching just 7 degrees at 5 a.m.
How do these temperatures compare to last January?
Pensacola experienced an extremely abnormal January in 2025, when 9 inches of snow was dumped on the area. On January 20, 2025, the day before the historic snowfall, temperatures were almost identical to Saturday. It had a maximum temperature of 43 degrees, a minimum temperature of 25 degrees and an average temperature of 34 degrees.
The following days were even colder.
On January 21, Pensacola experienced a 25.1 degree departure from normal temperatures, with a high of 33 degrees, a low of 23 degrees, and an average of 28. The next day, there was a high of 37 degrees but a low of only 13, with an average temperature of 25 degrees, nearly 30 degrees below the usual average.
When will it be hot again in Pensacola?
Warmer temperatures are finally on the horizon, but maybe not as warm as everyone hopes. Temperatures are expected to begin to rise Monday and Tuesday, with highs reaching near 70 degrees in some areas.
Another cold front will hit the area Tuesday evening and will bring slightly cooler temperatures again, but not to the same degree as recent cold fronts. Wednesday’s high will be in the 60s with low temperatures in the mid 30s. Thursday’s high will be in the 50s with a low in the 30s.
The weekend should see high temperatures stabilize in the 60s and low temperatures stabilize in the 40s.
