Perplexity has just released Personal Computer. The software, available today for Mac, builds on the multi-model orchestration capabilities the company launched with Perplexity Computer in late February. Like Claude Cowork (and, starting today, OpenAI Codex as well), it is a suite of IT user agents that can work with your files, applications, connectors and the web to achieve complex and “even continuous” workflows.

Perplexity suggests a few different use cases for personal computers, starting with the obvious. “You can ask Personal Computer to read your to-do list,” the company says. “In fact, you can ask him to MAKE your to-do list.” He explains that you can open the Notes app on your Mac, ask your home computer for help, and the system will tell you the best way to help you. As part of this task, it can work on all your files, as well as apps like Apple Messages. If necessary, it will also employ several agents to complete a request. Like Anthropic did with Claude Cowork, Perplexity says you can also use its software to organize messy folders so that files have sensible names and everything has an easy-to-understand structure.

You can invite your home computer to use your voice and you can even launch and manage tasks from your phone. Perplexity states that the application creates files in a secure sandbox and that all actions it takes are verifiable and reversible. “A system that acts on your behalf should be useful and readable. It should feel like a team you lead, not a dishonest employee holding the keys to your most important data,” the company said.

Personal Computer for Mac is available starting today, starting with Max subscribers. Perplexity said it will soon offer the app to its other users, prioritizing those who have joined the waitlist for the experience.
