Pocket is shutting down this week: Here are 6 great read-it-later alternatives for your iPhone

I am a reader passionate about articles on my iPhone, and for years, I used Pocket to help myself to discover and save fascinating content and to consume it in my own time. I was devastated by the news that Pocket will close for good on October 8, but I driven alternatives and I think I found excellent applications.
Whether you are looking for a brilliant pocket substitute or you are new in the game in reading-it-later, these iOS applications will meet your reading needs. Here are our choices.
Safari reading list
We will start with the Safari reading list function, which is the own Apple reading solution that is built directly in its web browser. The obvious advantages here are that it is both free and does not force you to download third -party applications. It’s just an extension of an application that you can already use.
Save an article is easy. Just browse the page in Safari, press the Share button, then select Add to the reading list. You can find your items saved by pressing Show signs button (it looks like an open book), then type thePlaylist tab (it looks like a pair of glasses). You just need to select an article from the list, and it will take you to the web page. The Safari reading list is being read out of line, iCloud synchronization and a handful of integration with the shortcut application.

Reading list in Safari

Safari’s reading list is very well as a fire solution and open, but it is quite limited compared to dedicated reading applications. This is mainly summed up at its base: you do not get tags, highlighting, archiving or personalization design. There is also no Apple Intelligence or Discovery of articles, and its widgets are quite dull. But if everything you need is a central place to store your recorded items, it’s a good choice.
Matter
Of all the applications here, the material is likely close to the pocket. Indeed, it offers its own tab of items organized on the web, which you can then save on the application. If you are looking for something that finds items for you – rather than putting all the burden on you in search yourself – it should be at the top of your list.

It also has a wide range of intelligent features that raise your reading experience. This includes an artificial intelligence (AI) fueled by perplexity called co-reader that suggests and answers the questions you may have on the article. And if you like podcasts, you can export episodes in importance, which transcribes their text and allows you to read in the audio (this is well integrated with AirPods – just double -cut a listening rod to automatically highlight a paragraph when spoken).
Matter also offers a highly customizable design, protruding facts, beacons, notes and favorites, a button to scroll until the last reading, and much more. This is one of the best options if you want a pocket experience for your recorded content.
Instaper
Instapapper is a popular reading application, and it’s easy to see why. It has been carefully adapted to the needs of library rats and bibliophiles, and if you are missing pocket now that it is gone, Instapapper is a good replacement.
Its integrated AI can summarize your articles and include highlights and key passages. We also appreciate the way it automatically filters the sections “Read more” and other non-relevant elements on a page, allowing you to focus entirely on the article itself.

Power users will also be well served by Instapapper. It is delivered with 14 shortcuts to help build powerful automation, while the application and its behavior are highly customizable, with functionalities such as scanning gestures, haptic comments, invitations and even more to be modified. His speed reading tool, in the meantime, flambé the words on the screen one at a time so that you can quickly travel each article.
Reading reader
While Readwise is an application for organizing highlighting passages in articles and books, Reader (of the same developer) consists in saving articles. It is full of practical features, such as a daily digest that helps you catch up on past backups, a later list for the items you want to return to another time, and a Wisread section which reveals the most highlighted articles and passages of the week.

Readwise Reader is delivered with its own AI called Ghostreader. Once you have highlighted text, you can ask AI or summarize the copy, develop, create a quiz based on it or translate it into Spanish. There is also an AI tool “take where I stopped” which finds a piece of text before your current location and sums it up, helping you remind you where you stopped. AI prompts can even be personalized according to your needs.
The application page of the application can be changed to your taste, as is the reader. Speaking of this, Readwise Reader has one of the most attractive reading panels of all the applications we have tried. There is no doubt that it is a brilliantly formatting application.
Goodlinks
Goodlinks is the power user user application par excellence. It is delivered with a huge range of shortcuts – 28 in total – which allow you to build powerful automations with its set of tools. There is also a wide range of widgets for your iOS home page, and this is another area where it eclipses its rivals.
The treatments extend to the application itself, which is beautiful with its meticulous pinch of colored touches. It looks like an application that Apple itself could have conceived. Unsurprisingly, you can adjust both its appearance and functionality to your taste.

Goodlinks is also one of the rare applications here to use iCloud for multiplatform synchronization, and it works on iOS, iPados and MacOS, helping you read on which device you have at hand. It is also the only application to use a payment model, without subscription – $ 9.99 and it is up to you to keep forever.
Raindrop.io
If everything you want is a simple reading app that comes out of your way, Randrop.io is a popular choice. He has everything you need to record, read and manage your favorite articles, including the salient facts, labels, notes, favorites, cross -synchronization, coworking tools and a customizable interface, which makes him easy and pleasant to use.

Aside from the usual labels and filters, your items can also be organized in collections, which is an excellent way to separate your recorded content and find it more easily in the future. We also love its backup tool, which regularly takes offline copies of your backups. It can also be connected to Dropbox and Google Drive for simple storage.
Raindrop.io is the most affordable subscription application here, with its premium subscription costing $ 2.99 per month. This gives you suggestions for AI for tags and collections, full text research, permanent copies of your recorded articles, daily backups, and more.
