President Donald Trump Makes a (Non) Surprising Endorsement for 2026 Michigan Senate Race – RedState

Even if the calendar shows that it is still in 2025, and in fact, we are in summer, things are starting to warm up for the primary season here in the state of the big lakes and, therefore, the general elections in 2026. The campaign seasons seem to become longer, and I have no problem with this because I am a political nerd.
So, for those of you who count at home, and being that we have almost finished in July, this means that the general electoral evening is only 16 months old. In Michigan, which has looked more and more in blue since Governor John Engler left his duties in 2002, the Republicans had to start choosing candidates much earlier than in other parts of the country to take a jump on things.
Which is great for said Nerd, which, as we have already approached, I am.
Since the news of Detroit on who made official that they were in the mixture for 2026, Open Senate Race for the Seat being canceled by Gary Peters:
President Donald Trump approved former American representative Mike Rogers on Thursday for the open headquarters of the US Michigan Senate – the day after another potential competitor for the appointment of the GOP bowed.
“From the American army to the congress, Mike served our nation with distinction and will bring this same spirit of combat to the American Senate,” wrote Trump in an article on social networks.
“Mike Rogers has my complete and total approval – he won’t let you down!”
Trump met the deputy for western Michigan, the American representative Bill Huizenga, and told him that he should not show up for the Senate headquarters. After the said meeting, Huizenga decided that it may not have been the best time to try a race for the Senate, which paved the way for Rogers’ approval by the president.
Being that Rogers ran against the current outgoing Democrat, senator Elissa Slotkin, who only defeated him by 19,000 votes two years ago, he would be most likely to jump again.
Fortunately, it is.
The last time Michigan sent a republican to the American Senate was in 1994 with the election of Spence Abraham. The outgoing president lost his re -election offer at Debbie Stabenow, whose headquarters were filled by Slotkin in 2024.
Now, Mike Rogers, with whom I had the pleasure of meeting and talking about when he was a member of the congress, I think, is the favorite choice of this race.
Why would I be so daring to say that, you can think?
Here will (possibly) choose from which Democrats during this cycle. The primary to select someone is in August next year, so we have a little time to go; Someone else could jump, and frankly, I hope someone will do just to mix a little.
The representative of the State Joseph Tate (D), which was elected to the Maison du Michigan in 2018
The representative Haley Stevens is, so far, the favorite to win the primary and face Rogers, but only time will tell us what is going on exactly by then. Since it is Michigan, and having lived here all my life, it can become weird quickly.
However, the member of the Congress Huizenga still has the support of the president if he decides to keep his headquarters at the Congress. The house being held by such a thin margin and the president by realizing this, he properly pleaded for Huizenga to stay in the people’s house:
Trump said Huizenga was doing a “truly fantastic work” representing southwest Michigan and added that he hoped for a re-election to the Congress.
“He will have my complete and total approval, and he will never let us fall,” wrote Trump.
Huizenga won two figures the last time he has run and is well-appreciated in his district, which is why the president encouraged him to stay on the spot and to run as a representative of the 4th district.
Only political nerds wonder about the elections so distant from the general, and I am there for that.
