President Sheinbaum hopes boxer Chávez Jr. serves time in Mexico

Mexico – Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum said on Friday that Mexico had not stopped boxer Julio César Chávez Jr. on an arrest order in 2023 because he was mainly in the United States.

Sheinbaum spoke a day after the American authorities announced the arrest of the boxer in California for exceeding his visa and lying on a green card request. It was processed for an accelerated dismissal, according to the American authorities.

“Hope is that he will be expelled and will serve the sentence in Mexico,” said Sheinbaum at his daily conference on Friday, referring to the accusations he faced for arms and drug trafficking.

The 39 -year -old boxer, according to his lawyer Michael Goldstein, was recovered Wednesday by a large number of federal agents while riding a scooter in front of a house where he resides in the high -end district of Los Angeles of Studio City.

The arrest only occurred after days after the former average weight champion lost a match against the influencer who has become boxer Jake Paul in Anaheim, California.

Chávez has divided its time between the two countries. Immigration and customs’ application agents arrested Chávez for exceeding a tourist visa with which he entered the United States in August 2023 and expired in February 2024, the US Department of Internal Security said.

The agency also said that Chávez submitted multiple fraudulent declarations when it requested a permanent residence on April 2, 2024, based on its marriage to an American citizen, Frida Muñoz. His daughter is a granddaughter of Kingpin by Cartel de Sinaloa imprisoned Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman.

US officials said Chávez would have links to Sinaloa’s powerful cartel, who is blamed for a significant part of Mexico drug violence.
