A man was arrested Monday for stealing a car in Queens and kidnapping the 72-year-old man sitting in the backseat, cops said.

The victim was waiting in the backseat of an idling 2016 Subaru near 44th Parkway and 23rd Street in Long Island City when the thief jumped in the driver’s seat and sped off around 7:13 p.m. on Jan. 17, police said.

The suspect abandoned the car and its unwitting passenger about two miles away in Maspeth a short time later, according to law enforcement.

Police arrested Dominic Kanin, 30, about two weeks after the NYPD released MTA surveillance footage of a suspect. He is charged with robbery, kidnapping, unauthorized use of a vehicle and unlawful imprisonment, police said.

Kanin, who lives in the Cambria Heights neighborhood of Queens, has no criminal history, according to law enforcement.
