Following consumer complaints, the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a public health alert regarding ravioli dough due to misbranding and undeclared allergens.

Ravioli labeled beef and burrata may actually contain shrimp stuffed with lobster sauce. Shrimp and lobster, known allergens (shellfish), are not declared on the product label.

FSIS is issuing this public health alert to ensure that consumers with seafood allergies know that this product should not be consumed. No recall has been requested as the product is no longer available for purchase.

However, FSIS is concerned that some products could be found in consumers’ refrigerators or freezers.

The ravioli were produced between March 10, 2026 and April 21, 2026. The following product is subject to the public health alert:

  • 32-ounce plastic bag packages containing “Giovanni Rana RANA Rustic Beef Sauce and Creamy Burrata Cheese Ravioli” with “use by” dates ranging from 05/14/2026 to 06/25/2026.

The product bears the establishment number “Est. 44870” inside the USDA inspection mark. These items were shipped to Costco retail stores in Maryland and New Jersey.

The problem was discovered when the establishment notified FSIS that it had received two consumer complaints reporting that the beef sauce and burrata ravioli actually contained shrimp ravioli.

No adverse effects due to the consumption of these products have been confirmed. Anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a health care provider.

Consumers who have purchased these products are asked not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
