Readers sound off on Bonhoeffer’s theory, Israel’s violence and RFK Jr.’s candy questions

Group thinking makes people blindly
Bloomington, Ind.: Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a German pastor and philosopher murdered by the Nazis, argued that the bad guys are not as dangerous as stupid people. His theory suggests that evil is much easier to recognize and can therefore be treated more effectively. Stupidity, on the other hand, is much more resistant to debate due to a lack of objectivity and skills of critical thinking in the stupid person.
He also suggested that in most cases, stupidity is learned rather than innate, which means that many people with high intellectual capacity can always be considered stupid, and vice versa. This mainly involves abandoning its rational analysis of the problems to obtain the acceptance of a specific group.
I can’t help but notice similarities between Bonhoeffer’s theory and the “Free Karen Read” movement. This is how any challenge to read Read’s innocence takes up the strongest reactions, sometimes even the most mean. When he is confronted with contradictory statements by Read or evidence that suggests his guilt, he seems to go directly to the head of his faithful supporters.
Read was authorized to the most serious accusations against her and cannot be recharged from these crimes. The jury has found enough reasonable doubt to release it. She will not spend time in prison. We are talking about a lucrative agreement, a new documentation and a film about his life.
When I saw the pink masses applaud outside the Massachusetts courthouse after the verdict announcement, I immediately thought of Bonhoeffer’s theory. Scott Thompson
Critical omission
Flushing: In his diatribe against Israel, the Jagjit Singh voice never mentioned Hamas, the reason for Israel’s actions in Gaza after October 7. If he had a terrorist as a neighbor side, we doubt it that he would be so Glib. If this terrorist would massacre a member of his family and would continue to proclaim that, given the occasion, he would continue in his atrocities, Singh would simply relax and do nothing? Or would the terrorist attack, even if this ogre hid behind his wife and children? The majority of us would take measures, regardless of the consequences. Charles Tal
A biblical offense
Bronx: Since the state of Israel is based on the Bible concerning its existence, it should take into account what the Bible says about children. Since the start of the war in Gaza, Israel has been responsible for the murder or injury of 50,000 children. The Bible clearly warns this, declaring that you would better attach yourself to a mill and drown than to harm a child. It doesn’t matter who triggered the war, children should not be sacrificed. Gilbert M. Lane
Barbarity
Hallandal, Florida: However, the average citizen considers President Trump’s policies and strategies to date, nothing is more reprehensible to me than his alignment with Israel about Gaza. Anyone who is attentive to the complete and independent information coverage linked to Gaza must be horrified in the daily review of civilians, including the shooting of people simply aligned for a refined food distribution gracious with a vacant American Israeli coalition. The daily aerial bombardment of almost all square feet of this tiny enclave – containing 2 million civilians who are continuously trained by the FDI from one place to another – is so annoying to challenge human rationality. Trump, and yes, President Joe Biden before him, was fully accomplice of Israel by sending billions of money and armaments to feed the deadly and shocking campaign. It is a moral indignation and a potential death of death for any morality and principles on which this nation was founded. Sid Sussman
We believe you
Bronx: Andrew Cuomo says of Zohran Mamdani’s decision not to use the expression “globalizing the intifada”: “When a person shows you, believe them the first time.” You have shown us yourself and we believe you. You are a lying and corrupt sex predator in the pocket of ultra-rich. We remember the first time you showed up, with the leaflet “vote for Cuomo, not homo” when your father presented himself to the mayor against Ed Koch in 1977. Richie Nagan
Mobile lines of life
Forest Hills: With the sad occurrence of school violence in this country, students must have access to their phones to call their parents or the police. Defining rules on use, but completely withdrawing them is false and dangerous. Sherri Rosen
Support application
Spotswood, NJ: Ice saves children to be used as slave work in drug factories. They remove the most brutal criminals from our streets – murderers, pedophiles and rapists. Each decent adult should support the ice and the excellent work they do. NYC must be saved, so let’s support the ice. Tom Scott
Application exaggeration
Massapequa Park, Li: Does anyone remember the raid on the house of Roger Stone in the early hours of the morning by a team of 30 agents for the heavily armed law? Does anyone remember the raid on the home of one pastor by another massive force of strongly armed federal agents while his wife and children were there – his protesting “crime” against a clinic of abortion? There was no crime committed by one or the other of these men, but the Biden administration thought it was acceptable to use a strength show to send a message. Many of these officers wore masks, but there was no outrage of democrats. Oh how fast they forget. Raymond P. Moran
Simple districts?
Bayside: Strange that politicians complain of Alcatraz in Florida. Perhaps they should visit an American warship. I was assigned to USS Guam in 1970 for a six -month deployment. The residential areas had high beds, with six people sleeping on each other and the common toilets. The first class treatment that illegal invaders are awarded is a slap opposite our sailors and sailors who live on naval ships. Today’s politicians are nothing other than a group of thoughts. Very sad for this country. As President John F. Kennedy said, “don’t ask for what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.” Timothy Collins
Catastrophe
Ridgewood: An advantage of Trump Alcatraz’s alligator is that it does not require too many guards, which saves the workforce. However, I have not heard of its plans to evacuate the region. The temporary accommodation which is destroyed there when a hurricane will arrive. I hope he has a well thought out plan to evacuate the 4,000 prisoners who are there. If not, what is the acceptable loss of life? John Sendlein
Poetic justice
Tarrytown, ny: If there is justice in the world, “One Big Beautiful Bill” will be the name of Trump’s new cell companion. Stephen Talenti
To defend the union
Manhattan: Gettysburg’s address should be on the wall of each class in America, and Trump should have it on a t-shirt he must wear every day. With the Maga red hat, with the truth! RB Brandel
Candy Quapakry
Ocala, fla. He thinks that it is good to remove fluoride from water to protect teeth while many cannot afford dental care! He is against vaccines for polio, diphtheria and measles (I had a measles booster on Monday). Vaccines are the best way to protect our population from diseases that are not curable. There is no health care for millions of people, but it is normal to get rid of the colors of M&M candies, which is not a food group. In my opinion, it is a believer of the disjointed plot that will no longer make America healthy. Many will die. He is not qualified to make healthcare decisions for anyone and is an embarrassment and danger to the United States, he is neither a doctor nor scientist. Lynn Miller
SPORT
Little Neck: Hey, Major League Baseball, how about anyone hit the ball in the nose of the clown wins the star match? Seriously, is there someone who loves baseball as much as he did five years ago? I would be surprised to know why. Peter Bagatta
