Readers sound off on unleashing ICE, shrugging off NATO and aspirin

This murder is the result of a dehumanizing policy
Roosevelt, LI: We are demanding justice following the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good, 37, in Minneapolis. The ICE officer responsible for this deadly act must be held fully accountable under the law.
This tragedy occurred near where George Floyd was unjustly killed – another painful reminder that injustice, excessive force, and unequal accountability continue to plague our nation. We must protest President Trump’s mass deportation plan. This is senseless family separation on steroids, and it must not be tolerated, no matter how popular Trump is. The mass deportation of millions of immigrants is extremely damaging to the moral fabric, economic stability, and global standing of the United States. Not all immigrants are criminals and should not be collectively targeted, demonized, or discriminated against simply because Trump is back in the White House. Hard-working immigrants contribute to our communities, our economy and our future. They should be celebrated and appreciated, not eliminated to satisfy an election promise based on fear and lies. Yes, those who committed crimes must be held accountable. This standard should apply equally to everyone, including Trump. You reap what you sow, and what is done in darkness will eventually be revealed.
The dangerous double standards inherent in mass deportation policies could backfire on America. These policies impose devastating costs on American citizens, weakening our economy, increasing the national debt, straining public budgets, and tearing families apart. Justice demands accountability. Humanity demands compassion. Democracy requires resistance to policies that devalue life. Arthur L. Mackey Jr.
We can see
Howard Beach: Too bad for Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem that there are video recordings showing exactly what happened when a woman was killed by an ICE agent in Minneapolis. They cannot get away with their blatant lies, no matter how many times Trump repeats his false version of what happened. Barbara Berg

Scranton, PA: OK, class, it’s time for today’s lesson in MAGA Justice 101 with Professor Kristi “Puppy Killer” Noem: If you are arrested and convicted after breaking windows to enter the Capitol, defecating on the ground, assaulting Capitol Police with bear spray, spearing them with flagpoles, beating them senseless with their batons, and chanting to hang officials as they attempted to certify the results of a free and fair election, you will be hailed by the president as a hostage and a patriot and gain his pardon. But if you are fatally shot in the face by an untrained, masked thug and accused of running him over with your vehicle when video evidence from various angles clearly shows that is not the case, you are a domestic terrorist. Plain and simple. Questions? Morabito wine
Incoherent outrage
Hicksville, LI: I find it odd that the left is hyperventilating over the ICE shootings in Minnesota. Aren’t you the same people who praised Capitol Police Officer Michael Byrd for the murder of Ashli Babbitt? The same Byrd who left a loaded gun in a public restroom. The same Byrd who shot at a moving vehicle while off-duty, stating he felt threatened. The only problem is that investigators found bullet holes in the rear of the vehicle and not the front. This proved that the vehicle posed no threat to him and that he lied to investigators, which automatically gets you fired if you’re on the NYPD. Yet he was promoted and financially rewarded for killing an unarmed person. Babbitt posed much less of a threat to Byrd than the young woman trying to run over the ICE agent, but you vilify the ICE agent and view Byrd as a god. John Gelormino
Omen of doom
Flushing: The ICE abomination this week showed the world what the Trump administration really is: smoke and mirrors, abject cruelty and liars of the highest order. Like January 6, they are screaming that what we all see clearly on our television screens is not what we saw. Any sane person knows what January 6th was, and now we’ve seen what the cold-blooded murder of Renée Nicole Good was: another ICE atrocity committed by literally untrained goons. This is the Trump administration, where the common good is ignored and where open racism, unfathomable incompetence and callous insensitivity reign. America is on the brink of collapse, and to think that a percentage of easily ruled-by-the-nose Americans are adhering to what is clearly and demonstrably wrong is the most sickening aspect of it all. Yonkers: Neil Young is to rewrite the 1970 song “Ohio” with Nixon replaced by Trump and record the chilling depiction of the current reality in America. Mark Bloom
True believers?
Nutley, NJ: Dear Americans, how about taking a little quiz? Who believes he originally wanted to stop drug trafficking from Venezuela to the United States? Who believes he also wants to take over Mexico, Cuba and Greenland? Who believes he stopped eight wars last year? Who believes their DOJ just found 5 million new Epstein files? Who thinks he doesn’t want to run for a third term? Oh, one more question: Who lives in Mar-a-Lago North (how about all the gold in the Oval Office and the new $400 million ballroom)? Need other clues to give a correct answer? Elaine Bucino

Madison, Wisconsin: I thank Trump for ordering strong military action to capture Nicolás Maduro, who repressed the people of his own country, rigged elections, engaged in drug trafficking, and committed crimes against humanity. He posed as the president of the South American nation, but in reality, Maduro ruled as a brutal dictator. It was necessary to remove him from power for the good of humanity. In the early hours of last Saturday, I was delighted to learn of the large-scale US military operation in Venezuela. I hope that the Venezuelan people will now have a real chance to establish a democratic society. Tawsif Anam
Lightning destruction
Bronx: To quote Thomas Paine: “These are times that try the souls of men. » Trump and the courageless Republican Congress could lead America into World War III. Invading other countries and illegally seizing oil tankers in international waters will eventually lead to retaliation. Military intervention in Greenland, the territory of a NATO ally, will force NATO to defend Greenland against the United States, otherwise NATO will cease to exist, because its very existence relies on aid to its members. Vladimir Putin will now have reason to take over all of Ukraine and other neighboring countries, and China will have reason to invade Taiwan. What will Trump do? Nothing, if he doesn’t want to risk World War III. Trump is a coward and a tyrant. He likes to attack weak countries, not those with nuclear weapons. Gilbert M. Lane
Internal threat
Denver: As Trump continues to highlight his humanitarian efforts and accomplishments, I wonder when he will turn his “cocked gun on evil” to Big Tobacco, which evades product liability by causing more than 480,000 tobacco-related deaths each year in the United States. Does he realize that non-smoking taxpayers bear the medical costs of addicts, particularly affecting marginalized individuals like my toeless (frostbite) and homeless 64-year-old friend, who shared that he would buy cigarettes before winter gloves? I will never forget the suffering experienced by my father, a World War II veteran, who died in 1964 from emphysema caused by smoking. I became fatherless at 11 years old. Mike Sawyer
Pillbox
Brooklyn: Regarding why he takes a higher dose of aspirin than his doctor recommended, Trump said: “They say aspirin is good for thinning the blood, and I don’t want thick blood flowing through my heart…I want nice, thin blood flowing through my heart. Does that make sense?” Um, no, not at all. But by all means, keep doing it. Pierre Magnotta

Rockaway Point: I see our new mayor loves the spotlight, just like our old mayor. I’m already tired of him and all his promises. Regina Mangan

Congers, NY: To Voiceman David DiBello: Do you realize that if your wish comes true and Mayor Mamdani fails, the city you live in suffers? That doesn’t seem too smart to me. Beth Friscino
