‘God has got my back’ — Battered Sam Alvey reacts to brutal knockout loss at Karate Combat 58 | Video

Things didn’t go as planned for former UFC veteran Sam Alvey last night (Friday, Dec. 5, 2025) at Karate Combat 58 in Doral, Fla., as “Smile’n” ended his five-fight unbeaten streak with a brutal defeat by KO to the imposing attacker Robelis Despaigne. In turn, Alvey coughed up his Karate Combat heavyweight title.
Believe it or not, Alvey has rejuvenated his career since parting ways with the UFC in 2022. Entering Friday night, the combat veteran had posted a 4-0 (1 NC) record under the Karate Combat banner, including two successful heavyweight title defenses. The 39-year-old fighter is simply on the verge of tears.

Unfortunately for Alvey, he came up against an equally dangerous attacker on Friday night and ended up finishing for the first time in over two years. It happened in the second round when Despaigne landed a devastating headbutt that left Alvey out for the count.
After the loss, Alvey took to social media to send a message to his fans. The former UFC veteran seemed in pretty good spirits, but the loss was still tough to swallow.
Check it out below:
“God is good. The highest and the lowest,” Alvey said (shown above via Instagram).
“For those of you who don’t compete like me, know that there are few feelings in this world as bad as not raising your hand.

“But I know that God has my back. I know that whatever difficulties lie ahead, God has my back.
“Thank you guys for watching. Thank you guys for tuning in. Thank you for being a part of this journey with me. The good Lord has plans for me, he has plans for you. Don’t forget that. I love you guys.”
