Recently-waived Valkyries guard is getting another chance in the WNBA

On Monday, Julie Vanloo landed in San Francisco after winning the Eurobasket championship with Belgium, to learn that she had been canceled by the Golden State Valkyries.
The 32 -year -old goalkeeper turned to social media to express her disappointment that she missed the Belgian championship parade, only to learn that she was no longer part of the future of the Valkyries.
Three days later, however, Vanloo received great news: the sparks of Los Angeles signed it.
Vanloo made his WNBA debut in 2024, with an average of 7.4 points and 4.3 assists per game for the mystics of Washington.
In December, the Valkyries selected Vanloo in their expansion draft, and she appeared in 9 games before heading abroad for Eurobasket.
While she left, the Valkyries re-signed Kaitlyn Chen recruit, whom they drafted 30th in the general classification in April. Chen, which remains on the list currently, has collected an average of 4.3 points in 19.3 minutes per game, firing 60% in the field and 50% out of three.
The sparks will benefit from Vanloo shooting, the creation of games
The Sparks, who currently have a 5-12 file, were led by Kelsey Plum and Odyssey Sims in the rear area. Sims, however, was canceled earlier this week after an average of 9.8 points per match in 12 games. PLUM is on average 20.6 points, 5.6 assists and 1.5 interceptions.
Vanloo will provide Lynne Roberts with another goalkeeper who can manage the ball and space the ground. Vanloo pulled 30.8% out of three in his WNBA career. It also has on average the second assists (4.3) per game among recruits last year.
“We are delighted to get it,” said Roberts before Thursday’s match between the Sparks and the New York Liberty, according to Myles Ehrlich from Winsidr. “One thing we need is a coherent shot in three points. She brings this. She is super fiery, she is a winner. When we played Golden State, she struck about four in 70 seconds.”
Vanloo is about to make his Sparks beginnings Thursday evening.
