It is estimated that more than half a million immigrants live in Spain without legal authorization. They take jobs that few Spaniards want: picking fruits and vegetables in the fields, caring for children and the elderly, cleaning houses and hotel rooms. Some find themselves homeless. “Sin papeles” (meaning “undocumented” in Spanish) are often exploited, marginalized and invisible.
