Red Sox to be without Lucas Giolito for AL Wild Card Series

The right -hander of the Boston Red Sox, Lucas Giolito, will not be on the active list of the Wild Card series of the American League against New York Yankees due to a elbow number, said manager Alex Cora on Monday.
“He fought with his elbow in recent days,” said Cora. “… I hope it’s nothing major, but it will not be ready for that [series]. “”
Thursday, Garrett Crochet and Brayan Bello in Boston’s rotation should start the third match in the best three series. Match 1 starts Tuesday (6 p.m. he, ESPN).
“It’s a big blow,” said hook. “It’s a big arm and I think it strikes fear in opposite alignments.”
Giolito, who has 10-4 with an MPM of 3.41 and 121 stick withdrawals in 26 departures this season, was sent to see Dr. Jeffrey Dugas, an orthopedic surgeon at the Andrews Sports Medicine and OrthopeDic Center in Alabama.
Giolito’s average speed of the rapid ball dropped regularly during the last month of the regular season, from 93.9 MPH on August 26 to Arizona at 92.1 MPH during its last departure in Toronto on September 23. He had 0-2 with an MPM of 3.66 in four September after reaching 3-0 with an MPM of 2.39 in August six.
“I think he was fighting. He was going to throw an enclosure of the readers during the week, and we had to cut him short,” said Cora. “After Saturday, Sunday, he didn’t look too good, especially yesterday.”
Dugas repaired the ulnar collateral ligament in the right elbow of Giolito with internal skill surgery on March 12 of last year.
Giolito also underwent Tommy John surgery with Dr. Lewis Yocum on September 13, 2012.
The Red Sox manager said Kyle Harrison and Connelly could be options for a match 3, if necessary.
New York begins the left-handers Max Fried (19-5) and Carlos Rodon (18-9) in the first two games, followed by the Cam Schlittler recruit (4-3).
All-Star in 2019, Giolito is 71-66 with an MPM of 4.30 in nine seasons of major leagues with Washington (2016), The Chicago White Sox (2017-23), The Los Angeles Angels (2023), Cleveland (2023) and Boston (2025).
