A repeat offender allegedly randomly gouged out an elderly woman’s eye in Seattle after hitting her in the head with a board.

The horrific incident occurred this month outside the King County Courthouse in downtown Seattle when Jeanette Marken, 75, was randomly hit in the head with a piece of wood riddled with bolts, allegedly by Fale Vaigalepa Pea, 42, a repeat offender. As a result, Marken was left permanently blind in her right eye.

Police body camera footage later showed officers recognizing the criminal by name, apparently due to his past offenses.

“Is this Fale pea?” » an officer asked in the body camera video.

“He is known for his random attacks against the Third [Avenue]“, replied another.

After a paramedic asked him about the criminal, the officer responded, “He’s a regular. He usually hits. I guess today he decided to break his habit.”

According to the New York Postthe offender was “charged with assault following the latest incident and has a long list of prior arrests for assault, destruction of property and unlawful use of weapons.”

“He has been booked into the King County Jail eight times this year alone, but none of them resulted in criminal charges, records show,” the outlet added.

The victim’s family was outraged by the offender’s presence on the street and wondered “what is wrong” with Seattle law enforcement.

“She remembers the shock, the pain, the fear of not being able to see anymore,” Marken’s son, Andrius Dyrikis, said on a GoFundMe page. “Strangers, people for whom I will always be grateful, rushed to help her, but all she heard was their voices. Her vision in her right eye was gone and she was losing too much blood. At the hospital, we learned that she had multiple fractures to her face, skull, and nose…and that the damage to her right eye was permanent. She will never see out of that eye again.”

“For a woman who worked every day to support herself and her family, this attack cost more than her health. It stole her independence, her ability to work and the sense of security she once had. Today, even the simplest tasks are difficult. She faces a long road of surgeries, recovery and emotional healing,” he added.
