Say goodbye to (most) PlayStation exclusives on PC

Well, we knew this was coming, but now it’s more or less official. According to reports from a PlayStation Studios meeting today, major single-player narrative games from Sony’s first-party publisher will no longer be available on PC. This marks the end of a short but enjoyable period of games like Spider-Man, Horizon: Zero Dawn, God of War, And The Ghost of Tsushima coming soon for PC gamers.

Oh, and if you still hoped Transmitted by bloodmaybe just give up on that particular pony. I’m really sorry.

That makes sense. As Nintendo’s Switch 2 heats up, Microsoft seemingly shows a renewed commitment to the Xbox platform, and Valve plans a beachhead for the console with the Steam Machine, Sony may feel the need to refocus on its core gaming business. That means holding on to the family’s crown jewels, particularly its line of PlayStation Studios games that don’t appear on Xbox or Switch.

But it’s still a shame. I bet most PC gamers can find at least one or two titles in PlayStation Studios’ PC catalog that they really enjoy — Horizon is one of my personal favorites, and there’s a lot of variety in there. God of War is a mythological narrative game focused on combat, Unexplored it’s basically Indiana Jones for millennials, Death Stranding is a surreal game that involves tripping a lot and peeing in jars, and The last of us is widely considered one of the best series of the last decade. Now, for other games in these and other series, you’ll need a PlayStation 5… which doesn’t get any cheaper, like everything else.

In fact, I’m really disappointed. I was impatiently waiting Intergalactic: the heretic prophetthe next big game from Sony’s Naughty Dog. Even though I’m not a huge Unexplored Or Last of Us fanIt really hits all my sci-fi vibes. Now I’ll have to buy it on PlayStation, which I guess is what Sony wants… assuming I keep my PS5 that long.

I suspect most of the games already available on PC aren’t going anywhere. It would be foolish to waste the time and money invested in ports. And it’s not a total loss. According to the quote reported by Bloomberg’s Jason Schrieer, we’re talking specifically about single-player narrative games. This would leave open the possibility of games like Helldiverse 2a co-op action shooter released on PC alongside the PS5, still available on a PC near you.
