Neowin reports that Samsung has fixed a serious security flaw in Samsung Magician, its SSD management application, which allowed attackers to gain administrator privileges on users’ computers.
The vulnerability, identified as CVE-2025-57836, was caused by Samsung Magician creating a temporary folder with weak permissions during the installation process, which allowed DLL hijacking. Attackers could exploit this to escalate their privileges.
The vulnerability was reportedly discovered in August 2025 and affects Samsung Magician versions 6.3.0 to 8.3.2. However, this problem has now been fixed in Samsung Magician 9.0, so if you have a Samsung SSD on your computer, you should update your application immediately.
