Scottish Open: Rory McIlroy Grinds Through “Scrappy Start” to Stay in Contention

“Golf is hard” is probably the most popular sentence among fans of sport, and even the best players are no exception. It is therefore not surprising that a star like Rory McILroy did not soften his performance during the first round of the Scottish Open:
“It was a disjointed start,” he summarizes him.
It’s just to say that things have improved considerably for the Northern Irish as the day progressed.
“I definitely finished the Tour better than I started,” he said.
“I felt like it was a little slow … But I had the impression that the tour continued, I became a little more comfortable and a little more used to what we are going to face this week and next week too.”

By evaluating his upward trend during the Tour, the five -year -old major winner mentioned the two aspects that marked his luck during the day:
“I said to the guys there, I had a little trouble in the wind from left to right,” he said.
“The winds from right to left with which I agreed. But it seemed that the holes I got in trouble was when the wind was on the left …”
“You just have to get used to green speeds and conditions, and it’s a bit of an adjustment when you have played so much golf course in the United States when the Greens are even faster and the conditions are just a little different,” he added.
McILroy did not play Links golf in Europe in official tournaments since the Alfred Dunhill Links championship in October 2024.
Rory McILroy’s hard work kept it in the running
Until the fifth hole, it seemed that Rory McILroy was heading for a tour to forget. He had carded a birdie and two bogeys, and with a score of 1, and hovered at the bottom of the ranking.
However, the Northern Irishman has shown that he had a big career in his credit for a good reason. After stirring the sixth hole to level his score, he gathered eight consecutive pars, putting the instability of the start of the round behind him.
He dropped on the 15th after sending his tee shot to a Fairway bunker, but responded in Birdie the last three holes consecutively to finish 2 sous.
“All you can do is play the conditions that are there and that are placed in front of you,” he said by assessing his performance.
“And if there is an opportunity this week to be aggressive, you must be. We are still trying to win the golf tournament. You are trying to shoot the lowest possible scoring.”
McILroy will start the second round tie at the 33rd. His TEE time is at 3:28 am, Eastern time.
