Woman fatally shot in Chicago alley

A young woman was fatally shot in the head Friday evening in the city’s south district.
The woman, 25, was walking in an alley in the 8000 block of South Harvard Avenue in the Chatham neighborhood at 7:40 p.m. when she heard a loud noise and realized she had been shot, according to Chicago police.
Suffering a single gunshot wound to the head, the woman was transported to UChicago Medicine in critical condition, police said. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
No one was in custody while Calumet Area detectives investigated.
