Sen Tommy Tuberville cruises to GOP gubernatorial nomination in Alabama

Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville, a leading Senate supporter and ally of the president Donald Trump, On Tuesday, he headed to the GOP gubernatorial nomination in his home state of Alabama.

Tuberville beat long-shot rivals Ken McFeeters, an insurance agency owner, and Will Santivasci, a small business owner, to win the Republican nomination in the solidly red state in the race to succeed term-limited GOP Gov. Kay Ivey.

A former longtime college football coach — who spent 10 years as head coach at Auburn University in Alabama — Tuberville was elected to the Senate in 2020. Tuberville presented himself as an outsider closely aligned with Trump.

Trump, on the eve of the primaries, redoubled his support for Tuberville.

“He’s a lifelong leader, on and off the field – a true WINNER!” » posted the president on social networks.

Tuberville, who was the polling and fundraising favorite in the primary, will now be the heavy favorite to win Alabama’s gubernatorial election in November, a state Trump won by 30 points in 2024.
