The Shaler community gathered for a Remembrance Day service at Mount Royal Cemetery.

Volunteers planted flags on veterans’ graves before the weekend.
Officials said Memorial Day is about honoring traditions and remembering the sacrifices made by those who serve the country.
“We thank them for their acts of courage which allowed us to enjoy the freedoms for which they fought so hard,” said a speaker at the ceremony.

The Shaler Area Middle School Band performed at the cemetery.
VFW Post 9199 and Shaler American Legion Post 785 hosted the event.
