Snapchat owner cuts 16% of global staff in latest round of job cuts

Snapchat owner Snap Inc. is cutting about 16% of its global workforce, meaning about 1,000 jobs
The owner of social media platform Snapchat announced Wednesday it is cutting about 16% of its global workforce, or about 1,000 jobs that will be eliminated in its latest round of layoffs.
Snap Inc. said in a regulatory filing that the job cuts would cost between $95 million and $130 million in severance and related costs.
“The reduction in headcount is intended to further streamline our operations and reallocate resources toward our highest priority initiatives, leveraging increased operational efficiencies to accelerate our path to bottom line profitability,” the company said in its filing.
Snap had 5,261 full-time employees as of Dec. 31, 2025, the company said in its latest annual report.
CEO Evan Spiegel said in a letter to staff that another 300 vacant positions would not be filled.
This isn’t the first time the Santa Monica, Calif.-based company has cut jobs. In 2024, Snap will cut 10% of its workforce, or around 530 employees.
Snap cut 3% of its workforce at the end of 2023, and in 2022 it reduced its workforce by 20%.
Snapchat, popular with young people and known for its disappearing photos and videos, averages 474 million users each day, according to the annual report.
Snap said in its latest earnings report that its 2025 net loss narrowed to $460 million, while revenue increased to $5.9 billion.
