Sony’s WF-1000XM6 headphones are arriving shortly, according to leaked images from online retailers. And we now have a better idea of what tech will be packed into these active noise-canceling headphones, thanks to leaked specs from Billbil-kun, known for his precise tech scoops.

A representative for Sony did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The WF-1000XM6 headphones will feature several notable improvements over their predecessor, the WF-1000XM5 headphonesreleased in 2023. While the previous model integrated six microphones into its design, Sony’s upcoming headphones add two more, bringing the total to eight, which could improve active noise cancellation.

Sony will improve the entire active noise cancellation system by adding a QN3e processor, which the report claims will be three times faster than its predecessor. Other internal design overhauls include a new speaker, digital-to-analog converter, and amplifier.

Enabling active noise cancellation on the headphones uses more battery power, but Sony’s flagship product ANC headphones have always offered good battery life. With ANC enabled, the WF-1000XM6 earbuds match the eight-hour battery life of the WF-1000XM5 earbuds, according to the report. With the charging case, battery life doubles to 16 hours per charge.

Apart from the internal specifications, Sony has reportedly updated the external design of the WF-1000XM6 headphones. Photos that were apparently accidentally leaked by Thai retailer Power Buy indicate that the headphones will be available in matte black or white, with a new pill-shaped design with larger tips.

It’s unclear whether this is simply a more ergonomic design or whether it will result in stronger bass sound quality, although that will likely become clearer when Sony officially announces these headphones.
