Sony Will Soon Let You Pair Your PS5 Controller With Multiple Devices at Once

Your DualSense controller is not only good for your PS5. In fact, it can be associated with a number of other devices, so you can play games on things like your computer, smartphone or tablet. (It even works with an Apple TV track – Get a number.)

If you have already tried to actively switch between these devices to play, however, he ages quickly. Indeed, you cannot simply choose to start playing on a new device after finishing another: if you have associated your DualSense controller on your iPhone, for example, you will have to twin it again with your PS5 before taking a PlayStation game. Then you will have to associate it with your computer before playing a game on Steam. If you are used to products that can quickly switch between paired devices, such as AirPods, for example, it is particularly frustrating.

This is a problem that Sony is working on resolution. The last update of the company’s system for the PS5 is delivered with a new feature that allows your DualSense controller to associate with up to four devices at a time. This means that you can keep your DualSense controller associated with your PS5, but also your PC, your Android phone and your iPad. When you want to stop playing on the sofa and move to your computer, your controller will already be twinned, you can start playing right away. It is a small feature, but which brings a lot of convenience, especially if you play on several devices with the same controller.

How to associate a PS5 controller with several devices

For the moment, the only way to try this is to register your PS5 in Sony’s beta program. You can register here, but you will have to wait for an invitation to join, no warranty.

If you are running the beta version or read this when Sony has published the general public update, here is how this new feature works: first, check that the player indicator and the light bar of your controller are disabled. If they are not, keep the PS button until they are.

Then you will put your controller in twinning mode and choose one of the “slot machines” available. Each of the action buttons of your controller (triangle, circle, cross and square) designates a slit. To define the pairing mode on a particular location, press and maintain one of these action buttons and the PS button for more than five seconds. You will see the light bar and the player indicator flash twice.

Now be sure to activate Bluetooth on the device you want to associate and select the option to add Bluetooth devices. Then choose your controller from the list. If this worked, the light bar lights up and the light indicator lights flash in accordance with the location number:

1. Triangle

2. Circle

3. Cross

4. Square

You can repeat these steps for each of the four locations until you have maximized your agreements.

Switching devices with your PS5 controller

Once paired, you can change the device at any time, whether your controller is activated or deactivated. To do this, make sure that the device you want to go is on, then press and hold the corresponding action button and the PS button. Let go when the light bar and the player indicator flash, which should occur after about three seconds.
