On Friday, the president of the chamber’s supervisory committee indefinitely postponed the expected deposition for Ghislaine Maxwell, former partner of the sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, at the request of his lawyer.

The July 23 supervisory committee assigned Maxwell for a deposition scheduled for August 11. Commer postponed the next deposition after lawyer David Oscar Markus, who represents Maxwell, threatened that his client pleads the fifth if she did not receive immunity and other protections in exchange for her testimony, according to Politico.

Commer said that the Committee was “willing to continue engaging in good faith negotiations”, but would not give Maxwell immunity or would not comply with the requests of his lawyers to send his teams in advance, Politico reported. He agreed to postpone the deposition until the rules of the Supreme Court on Maxwell’s call, which asks the highest court to overthrow his conviction for sexual traffic in 2021, on the basis of a 2008 non-pretention agreement (NPA) involving Epstein in the southern Florida district. The list of Markus’s requests to the Committee said that his client should have received questions in advance for an appropriate “preparation” and also argued that Maxwell had not received a fair trial and was “wrongly condemned”.

Maxwell is serving a 20 -year prison sentence for his presumed involvement in Epstein sex traffic crimes. She met the Sub-Corner General Todd Blanche for two meetings held on July 24 and 25 to discuss her links with Epstein and answer questions about her role in her trafficking network, and she answered questions on nearly 100 people who would have been linked to Epstein.

President Donald Trump was not committed to knowing if he was going to forgive Maxwell by simply saying that he was “authorized” at a press conference on Monday.
