Sources – Raptors GM Webster to head basketball operations

The Raptors of Toronto name the director general Bobby Webster as a team’s basketball operations manager, and the teams have reached a new contract, sources in ESPN said on Monday.
Webster succeeds his former boss, Masai Ujiri, as director of the Raptors. The Raptors separated from Ujiri on June 27, one day after the NBA draft, and announced that they had enlisted the management of the CAA to help hire a new president of the team. Webster will remain in the role of GM.
Webster joined the Raptors in 2013 as Ujiri’s first hiring, going from the vice-president of the strategy and roles of Deputy Managing Director in Place GM, and now wins the most important post of authority in the organization.
Webster, 40, begins his 21st season by working in the NBA, starting with a role at the League office from 2006 to 2013, then joining the Raptors. He will start his ninth season as GM.
The Raptors spoke to several candidates for the team management position, but Webster impressed Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment PDG, Keith Pelley and other MLSE officials since the search for the replacement of Ujiri began at the end of June. Pelley and Webster spent critical time together during the NBA summer league in Las Vegas, allowing MLSE to observe the webster management style and give Webster the possibility of explaining its process in the role.
Ujiri joined the Raptors as Director General in 2013, winning the NBA management prize this season, before leading Toronto to the sole NBA title of the franchise in 2019, the only team outside the United States to accomplish the feat.
The Raptors went 30-52 last season and missed the playoffs for the third consecutive year.
The Raptors are built around Scottie Barnes, Brandon Ingram, RJ Barrett, Jakob Poeltl and Immanuel Quickley.
