State Department Scraps Woke Curriculum In New Recruiting Push

The State Department has removed LGBT seminars, blindfolded team-building exercises and career events for pet owners from onboarding at agencies as part of its new Foreign Service recruiting campaign.
Foreign Service Orientation or “A-100” is a six-week orientation for new officers and specialists. The revised program aims to eliminate undue ideological influence and what some State Department officials considered “juvenile” exercises. A targeted activity aimed to promote “leadership and following” and “perspective taking” by throwing things into buckets blindfolded.
“The Trump administration knows that an elite diplomatic service is essential to effectively defend America’s national interests,” State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “That is why the State Department has undertaken broad reforms to the Foreign Service recruiting and training programs.”
Many A-100 programs instituted under previous administrations have been eliminated by the Trump State Department, including seminars such as “LGBTQIA+ in the Foreign Service Community,” “Considerations for FS Singles,” and “Bidding with Pets in Mind.” RFP is the internal process by which Foreign Service officers apply for their next international or domestic assignment.
The new A-100 orientation requires 111 training sessions for prospective officers, a 37 percent increase from the 81 trainees required for January 2025, State Department officials told DCNF.
The revamped A-100 sessions include, among others, “The Need for Grand Strategy,” “Theories of Foreign Policy,” “America’s Founding Principles: Declaration of Independence, Constitution, Bill of Rights, Federalist Papers.”
“Instead of being forced to endure bureaucratic tedium and ideological content, American diplomats will spend more time learning the fundamentals of foreign policy and developing the critical skills needed to get results for the American people,” Pigott added.

“These modernization efforts include reinstating a written exam, examining applicants on American history, and reforming Foreign Service guidance to include content on diplomatic theory, economic governance, and strategic competition,” an April State Department memo noted.
The Foreign Service’s focus changes are part of a broader “commitment by the Trump administration to eliminate the radical gender and racial ideologies that poison the minds of Americans.”
