Repression and violence do not necessarily stop at borders (1, 2). For many Iranians abroad, fear over the recent violent crackdown on anti-government protests in Iran has spread through family ties and disrupted communication with loved ones back in Iran, making the violence in classrooms, laboratories, and workplaces thousands of miles away feel immediate and personal (3). These events have highlighted the inadequate response of global universities to political trauma.
