Supreme Court Justice Barrett Defends Dobbs Decision, Says Judges Should ‘Tune Out’ Critics Like Hillary – RedState
Judge of the Supreme Court Amy Creey Barrett defended 2022 Dobbs Decision that overturned Roe c. WadeSaying that it was a question of the law of a state which should be “properly left to the democratic process”. During an interview on the “face The Nation” of CBS on Sunday with the host Norah O’Donnell, Barrett also said that the judges had to “withdraw” the noise of criticisms as former secretary of state Hillary Clinton.
“Dobbs did not make the abortion illegal. Dobbs said nothing about the question of whether the abortion was immoral. Dobbs said that these are questions that are left to the States. And all these types of questions – the decisions you mention that require medical judgments – are not those that our Constitution connects to the courts, you know, to decide the pregnancy for the lines of abortion and you know. Dobbs says that these calls are properly left to the democratic process.

O’Donnell questioned Barrett about the criticisms of people like Clinton. People “say a lot of different things,” replied the judge:
“So when Hillary Clinton, for example, said the next step, she said:” My prediction is that the court will do gay marriage what they did to abortion “”, “said O’Donnell.
Barrett replied: “I think that people who criticize the court who are outside say a lot of different things, but again the point I make in the book is that we must settle these things.”
Barrett’s book, “listen to the law: reflections on the court and the constitution”, should be published on September 9. She should talk about it that evening at the Ronald Reagan presidential library in Sim Valley, California.
Earlier this month, as my colleague Katie Jerkovich reported, the free press printed an extract from the volume where Barrett fired a blow through the bow of militant judges who let their personal opinions guide their judgment on the law:
And with regard to the role of judges, Barrett wrote: “Like the Americans, the judges have various opinions on the values by which a just society should live. However, under the Constitution, the choice between these competing opinions is made by citizens in the democratic process, and not by judges who establish disputes.”
“On the bench, we must suppress our individual beliefs in deference to those who prevailed in the law promulgated,” she added. “Our work is to protect the choices that citizens have made, even when we disagree with them …”
“They [judges] are referees, not kings because they decide whether people have respected the rules rather than on the rules, “continued Barrett.
