Swalwell Refuses to Go Quietly Into the Night As Lawyer Issues Statement Saying It’s All a ‘Hit Job’ – RedState

In America, you are innocent until proven guilty. However, this only applies to the criminal court; in the world of public opinion, people are free to make whatever judgments they wish.
Right now, I think it’s safe to say that the name of former Rep. Eric Swalwell (CA-14) is mud to most people following the shocking revelations of alleged sexual predatory behavior against numerous women. I say “former” because he ended his run for governor of California on Sunday, even though he was a front-runner, and officially resigned from Congress on Tuesday.
You’d think this would be the last we’d hear from him for a while – but no. He remains defiant and, according to his lawyer, he is completely innocent:

It was all a “political stunt,” according to lawyer Sara Azari.
Congressman Eric Swalwell categorically and unequivocally denies all allegations of sexual misconduct and assault that have been made against him. These accusations are false, fabricated and deeply offensive – a calculated and transparent political stunt intended to destroy the reputation of a man who spent two decades in public service.
For those who watched an interview with a woman who says she survived a vicious attack by the congressman, Azari’s argument will be difficult to convince. The alleged victim, Lonna Drewes, a former model who currently owns a fashion software company, certainly sounded genuine in describing the horrific situation she says she finds herself in, as our editor Jennifer Van Laar reported earlier Tuesday:
Lonna Drewes, the fifth female accuser @ericswalwell of rape allegations, details sexual misconduct such as being “drugged,” “incapacitated” and “raped.” https://t.co/pdcQJUNRhZ pic.twitter.com/Bh5XGNDnYF

Swalwell’s Best Friend Ruben Gallego Absolutely Fires Him – But Says He Had No Idea About His Behavior
Despite Drewes’ powerful account and the accounts of several other witnesses, Swalwell is seemingly unmoved, according to the letter:
The timing, nature and coordinated implementation of these vile and heinous allegations speak for themselves. It is neither about justice nor the truth. This is a callous and brazen attempt to defame Congressman Swalwell.
Congressman Swalwell has dedicated his career to defending the Constitution, protecting civil liberties, and standing up to those who abuse power. He never wavered in this fight – and he won’t waver now. We will fight these despicable and baseless accusations with the same tenacity, courage and conviction that has defined the Congressman’s public service.
As we reported, Swalwell’s best friend, Arizona Democratic Sen. Ruben Gallego, who was the representative’s national campaign chairman for his failed 2020 presidential bid, didn’t convince much earlier Tuesday when he told reporters he had no idea Swalwell had any very sinister skeletons in his closet. But even this presser seemed more credible than this letter.
His conclusion:
We are confident that the truth will prevail and we will use all available legal remedies against those responsible for this reprehensible campaign of lies.
Swalwell better hope his truth prevails, because right now things are looking very, very bad for him. Innocent until proven guilty, I know, I know, but right now the evidence is incredibly overwhelming.
