Bangkok – The Supreme Court of Thailand said that former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra was to serve a one -year prison sentence for previous convictions for transplant and electricity abuse, after investigating the question of whether those responsible had managed his return to Thailand in 2023 to start purging convictions.

A judge said that the application of Thaksin’s sentence was not done correctly, and therefore his detention in a police hospital did not count as a prison sentence.

After his return to Thailand after more than a decade of life in self -exile, Thaksin was sent to a series of the General Hospital of Police in Bangkok, apparently for medical reasons, after spending less than a day in prison.

His eight -year -old sentence was then commissioned at one year by King Maha Vajiralongkorn, and he was released in parole after six months in the hospital.

The circumstances raised questions to find out if he had received a special treatment and many suspected if he was really sick.

Before the decision, Thaksin arrived in court with his family, including two of his children, Pintongta Shinawatra, and former Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who was withdrawn from his post last month after a court was guilty of a violation of ethics for a politically compromised telephone call with the Cambodian Senate Hun Sen.

Paetongtarn spoke to journalists after the decision, thanking the king for birth of Thaksin’s sentence. She said that Thaksin would remain a spiritual leader in Thai politics and that he still thinks of working for the good of the country and the Thai people.

“I worry about my father, but I am also proud to have created so many historical moments for the country,” she said. “It’s quite difficult, but of course, we are always in a good spirit, my father and our family.”

Thaksin should be sent to Bangkok’s dismissal prison following the decision.
