Tom Brady only said the “paranoid and distrust” that he could work both as a broadcaster and team owner in the NFL.
Since retired from the game, Brady has become a minority owner of Las Vegas raiders and has assumed an analyst’s role at Fox. As part of its distribution role, Brady has access to players and coaches from other teams, an unavailable option for owners from other NFL teams. Some believe that his double role raises a conflict of interest and gives Brady and, by extension, the raids an unjust advantage over the other teams. The subject sparked even more debates last week when Brady was seen in the coach of the raiders during the team defeat against Los Angeles. The NFL said Brady had not informed any rule.
In the Wednesday edition of his weekly newsletter, Brady addressed criticism.
“When you live through uncertain moments and without confidence as we are today, it is very easy to look at the passions and the profession of a person to cross, and to believe that you are looking at a kind of dilemma. Because when you are blinded by distrust, it is difficult to see anything other than personal interest,” wrote Brady.
The seven time Super Bowl champion added that he was aware of the ethics of his retired roles.
“I love football. Basically, it is a set of principles. And with all the success he gave me, I think I have a moral and ethical duty towards sport; This is why the point where my roles intersect is not really a conflict point, despite what paranoid and distrust might believe.
Brady was in the Fox commentary on Sunday for the Chicago Bears’ victory over Dallas Cowboys. In the perspective of this match, Brady had access to coaches and players for the Bears, which the raiders are faced this week. However, Chicago’s head coach Ben Johnson said he was not disturbed by Brady’s presence. Johnson said he had no intention of giving “trade secrets” to Brady.
